Introducing Dt. Jacob Vadakkanchery, N.D

Founder and director of four non-profit Nature Life Hospitals in Kerala, India, Dt. (doctor-teacher) Jacob Vadakkanchery is recognized internationally for his naturopathic, health-restoring philosophy, Nature Cure. Lecturing on the innate healing power of the body as well as its sacred way of naturally detoxifying and communicating with its person, Dt. Jacob's teachings cover the significance of listening to our bodies and achieving maximum health without the use of medications. He examines topics such as pain and illness, including cancer, AIDS, and auto-immune diseases, as well as the dangers of allopathic treatments and health and medical myths. Indeed, with a reputation for curing even cancer, and for raising a constant fuss within the pharmaceutical industry, Dt. Jacob is renowned for his instinctive ability to diagnose physical problems simply by observing a patient's face.

Yet, apart from pain and illness, the Keralite Naturopath derives a substantial following for his expertise in nutrition and his simple yet extraordinary weight loss advice. Considering the importance of vegetarianism and proper food combining, Dt. Jacob discourages dieting and nutritional supplements, and explains how to work with one's body, rather than against it.

At present, Dt. Jacob's ambition is to make the world aware of the harmful affects of drugs and to instill a deeper appreciation and understanding of our body's natural and unique healing system.

Biography

Jacob Vadakkanchery was born on December 2, 1961 in Njarakkal, Vypeen Island, in Cochin, Kerala, India. His parents, Mr. V.C. Poulose, an artist, and Mrs. Annie Poulose, had four children, in which they instilled the creed of Mahatma Gandhi and encouraged their participation in social service. As the eldest child, Dt. Jacob set an audacious example for his younger siblings, Lilly Joseph, Dt. Mary Shine, and Job V.P., by contributing to the welfare of humanity as early as age 11.

Known as a writer, orator, poet, singer, teacher, doctor, yoga master, peace and justice worker, Dt. Jacob has dedicated his life to social work and service to the poor, without the help of financial sponsorships or donations. In 1980, Dt. Jacob joined the Gandhian Movement and became an organizer in the Kerala Prohibition Council to help village women fight against alcoholism. Sitting before the entrance of liqueur shops to prevent the sale of alcohol, Dt. Jacob was often publicly beaten and arrested eight times, narrowly escaping life-threatening circumstances. Yet his actions forced the government to close over 10,000 county-made liquor shops in the province of Keralatate.

Since then, Dt Jacob participated in Narmanda Anti-Dam Movement in northern India with Medha Patkar and Arundhati Roy, and organized the People's Movement and Satyagraha for environmental protection. For his excellent service, Dt. Jacob became the first recipient of “The Spirit of Assissi National Award” in 1995 for his service to the poor and for social change.

Today, Dt. Jacob is the Indian coordinator for Peace Brigades International, joint secretary for the Ghandi Peace Foundation in Cochin, and chairman for Janarogya Prasthanm (People's Health Movement) in Kerala State, which fights against the malpractice of modern medicine. Dt. Jacob's other commitments include editor, publisher, and printer of Nature Cure Magazine, as well as chairman (and founder) of Swasraya Vypeen, an organization for the self reliant lifestyle, social justice, and people's power of Vypeen Island. Furthermore, Dt. Jacob performs silent fasting from Nagasaki Day to Hiroshima Day for world peace, and is also the Chief Minister of Kerala's personal doctor.

Since 1996, Dt. Jacob has opened four Nature Food Restaurants, “Aruvi,” in India and began manufacturing Nature Cure products such as ‘Dehakanthi' bathing powder to replace soap, and naturally decaffeinated herbal, ‘Jappy,' instead of tea and coffee. At present there are 20 organic Nature Cure products, known as ‘Kuruvi' that are currently being produced by Gandhi Grihodyog Production Unit. Furthermore, Dt. Jacob created Nature Life videos in Malayalam language to provide instructions on natural healing methods as well as counsel on leading disease-free lives.

Dt. Jacob's four Nature Life Hospitals in Kerala have been up and running since 2000 with over 150 devoted staff, personally trained by Dt. Jacob. The Alway Hospital in Cochin is dedicated to the poor for nominal charges and totally free for needy patients. The slogan, “Admitted as a Patient, Discharged as a Doctor,” reveals Dt. Jacob's creed that all individuals should be equipped with the knowledge of understanding and healing their own bodies, and free of dependence on doctors and medication.

As follower of Mahatma Gandhi and student of Professor M.P. Manmathan, Narayan Desai (son of Mahadev Desawho, secretary to Gandhiji), Dr. Sukuar Azhikode, and Dr. Raghavan Thirmulpad, Dt. Jacob is inspired to dedicating his life to performing maximum service for humanity. He has conducted Nature Cure courses in Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Singapore, and Srilanka and intends to lecture in America by autumn, 2008. Dt. Jacob's future plans are to create an organic farm where anybody can work and live, and to eventually raise 20 orphan children and train them as Nature Cure healers. In addition, he hopes to build an ashram and international center for Nature Cure, as well as an international school for naturopathy.
